Gay Tourism Buenos Aires explodes and leaves millions of pesos

December 22nd, 2009 admin 1 comment

The tourism boom has a key player that came out of the closet: gay travelers found their Mecca in Buenos Aires.

Seductive by price, quality, and tolerance, the capital gain fame gay tango around the world and attracts dollars in amounts of eight digits.

Gay tourists disbursed U.S. $ 54.000 billion a year, according to recent findings of Community Marketing Inc., which monitors the global segment. But how much it spends in Buenos Ares gay? The figures “to exit polls” of the current summer temperatures heading up putting the thermometer tip red hot.

Of all the million annual tourists coming to Argentina, it is estimated that 100,000 are gay men, walking alone or in pairs.

Flower Business

”You see 10% of the market” But they see you? “So Axel Consulting advertises its services firm that specializes in gay-business-driving, among other things, the gay hotel chain that is about to land in Buenos Aires ground. We speak of the Axel Hotel, one of the most sophisticated five star accommodation in the world (the best of 2005 emerges as the “Out Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards-annual international festival of gay-tourism), which before July 2007 promises to open Design fourteen floors, 48 rooms, restaurant, business center, spa, garden and swimming pool in Venezuela 649.

The advanced work in heart of San Telmo seriously compete with international chains such as Four Seasons or Howard Johnson, which, although not specifically gay, have been declared “friendly” (friendly) thereon.

A hot market

Gay cruises follow the same trail: the last, received in February 2006, brought 684 passengers to the port of Buenos Aires generating staggering: says official statistical analysis available at the city government that these travelers spent U.S. $ 220 average per day per person for a week: more than $ 1 million. Not to mention the outlay during their stay on land, luxury hotels, according to the above document. Whereupon, the figure would go comfortably to a million other green. Conclusion: if U.S. $ 2 million a week are just the 684 members of a gay cruise, what numbers will move the hundred thousand gay tourists who arrive annually? Common sense suggests a thriving business is booming.

Gay Media

The media did not turn their backs on the move. Bilingual guides as Gay-BA (already launched in December 2005) offers its annual graphic version at kiosks and bookstores, as well as its counterpart on the Internet updated daily. There are radio stations and news websites dedicated to the field. The iconic Gay Channel (airs on Direct TV and plan to convert it to air channel from a pilot in Cordoba) accompanies the promotion of tourism with all sorts of campaigns, energizing the final legitimization of “gay” as a reality woven into the urban population.

The latest: football gay

Against all prejudice, a real event in the New Year spring comes to break with the idea that homosexuals kick back: the Gay World Football Championship, organized by the International Gay and Lesbian Football Association promised a massive tourist flow.

The tournament, already famous in the rest of the world, involves the presence of sponsors, organizers, special tours, athletes, fans, curious in general, and is driven by key NGOs: the president of the Community Homosexual Argentina (CHA), César Cigliutti, was glad that Buenos Aires was designated as the seat of the championship, and told the EFE news agency praised the relevance in this regard “any act of visibility for the gay community, more so in an environment dominated by machismo and homophobia , as the Argentinian football. ”

Government “Gay Friendly”

City Legislature pioneered the field when in 2002 passed the Civil Union Act to persons of one sex, thus becoming the first Latin American city with ad hoc legislation.

As for the entertainment circuit lacks nothing in the streets of Buenos Aires: tango milongas gay bars, current affairs magazines, clubs, saunas, restaurants, movies XXX, parties, beauty salons display their range of opportunities on an extensive list. The city government site fosters a gay tour, plus a special link on “Course friendly” for visitors.

Tango Frenchified

The gay tango, meanwhile, reaches its maximum boiling point, during the First International Festival of Buenos Aires de Tango Queer. Its organizers call for the appointment as “a celebration of sexual diversity in the tango”. Perhaps historical reminiscences bring this form: we know that gender-forbidden in the Rio de la Plata, in the late nineteenth century was practiced mainly among same-sex couples.

The pink dollar

Just as in the rainbow that identifies the international gay community can say that all variables affect and colors are combined in this trend as favorable to the economy of Buenos Aires. Trade issues as part of a global consumer phenomenon, with an attractive target: Anglophones identify as gay consumers DINK (English initials for “double incoming no kids / double income, no kids”). The local exchange rate advantage, which promotes this synergy, the explosion of tango as a global product, and finally the key “political correctness” that makes the tolerance and non discrimination accrue a phenomenon liable to different perspectives: Another quality implicit in Buenos Aires? Another form of cultural architecture, its music, its sporting passion? Another expression of her particular cosmopolitan nature, from which also included soccer, tango, beef, nightlife, entertainment, art, avant-garde? Anyway, great news for local tourism.

Judy Garland and Elton John, elected gay icons of history

December 21st, 2009 admin No comments

Polls are only polls and as well some are quite harmless, as we echo them occasionally. And has appeared on the network one that tells us that 5,000 Britons have voted for gay older male and female gay icons.

Gay icon, gay people do not understand that influenced the community, but gay or straight characters that have been precisely iconic references of the gay community or idolized by it. Like any list, there are unavoidable names and a few others which I had never heard of, but divided into two lists, one male and one female, we see that men in the Queen Elton John, and the women virtually inevitable, the fabulous Judy Garland.

It is curious to note, comparing a list and another, as well as 10 men, only one is not gay, in the list of females, although the variety is evident, the straight win by a landslide.

Without further step to make a list and photos of each and one which appears, from ten to one, and start with the boys:

10. David Beckham

9. Boy George

8. Paul O Grady

7. Alan Carr

6. Will Young

5. Oscar Wilde

4. George Michael

3. Stephen Fry

2. Freddie Mercury

1. Elton John : Short and stubborn, unsightly but Elton John is one of the most amazing composers of the twentieth century is the music genre that is. Lord of the excesses in both public and private life, not just surprised that Sir Elton has been placed first, although I play the ‘Queen’ walked all the time at his heels.

For them:

10. Barbara Streisand

9. Dusty Springfield

8. Lily Savage

7. Shirley Bassey

6. Marilyn Monroe

5. Liza Minnelli

4. Cher

3. Madonna

2. Kylie Minogue

1. Judy Garland: Mother of Liza, never found in life instead of Arco Iris. Or at least I saw her because he loved Hollywood, as an audience excited with their huge eyes, his voice and his heartbreaking prodigious acting talent. But his insecurity and his disastrous love life pushed her addiction to tranquilizers that ended her life.

51% of gay families prefer company of other gay people while on holiday

December 17th, 2009 admin No comments

A recent survey has found that 51% of gay families prefer to go on holiday with other gay people, ideally other gay families.

London, England — A survey of gay and lesbian parents undertaken by Rainbow Family Holidays has found that more than half of the men and women surveyed preferred the company of similar families when on holiday.

When asked “If you had the choice of whom you holiday with, would you choose to go with other gay & lesbian families, with mixed (straight & LGBT) families, with an LGBT group (not just families) or with just your family”, the largest number said they would choose other gay and lesbian families.

Children do seem to be the priority here, as the second most popular choice was ‘with mixed (straight & LGBT) families’. According to one of the survey respondents, “we want to feel comfortable ourselves and let our children meet other children from similar families. If that’s not possible, we would rather they be around other children.”

Surprisingly, no major operators cater to this market. This has led to the rise of small, niche companies such as Rainbow Family Holidays who specialise in providing holidays for LGBT parents and their children.

Survey Details
The survey was completely anonymous, and covered gay and lesbian families from the UK, USA and Europe. Respondents were asked 10 questions, most of which had multiple choice answers with just one choice to be made.

About Rainbow Family Holidays
Rainbow Family Holidays is a gay family holiday operator providing packaged holidays for gay dads, lesbian moms and their children. The company plans holidays and book venues for groups of LGBT parents and children. All the venues are child friendly, and all the hosts are gay friendly!
