Institute of Historical Research of the Manzana de las Luces
Called “La Manzana de las Luces” is an archaeological complex made up of old historic buildings in the city, where today a cultural center for plastic arts exhibitions, theater, and lectures. It is permanently open to the public to attend their proposals and to visit historical sites. The set of “The apple of Lights”, also contains the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires and the Church of St. Ignatius. Its origin dates back to 1633 when he was a lot that was occupied by the Jesuits. He worked the Society of Jesus that left a number of important buildings for the country’s history. When they were expelled in 1977, these buildings were home to educational institutions and institutional: the former headquarters of the University of Buenos Aires, and Academy of Medical Sciences Department, and the House of Representatives – Legislature and Congress.
