Ex Bush asesor comes out of the closet
A former campaign manager of former U.S. President George W. Bush confessed that he is gay and, after years of public service, wants to become an advocate for gay rights. “It took me 43 years to feel comfortable with this part of my personality,” said Ken Mehlman, campaign manager for Bush’s reelection in 2004, in an interview published Wednesday online edition of The Atlantic magazine.
“Each trace their path and, in my case, I announced the news to my family, my friends and former colleagues in recent months, and have been wonderful to me,” said Mehlman.
Ironically, in the election campaign for which Mehlman worked in 2004, the gay marriage ban was one of the most advocated by the Republican Party and, according to some analysts, the moral issues which facilitated the re-election of former President Bush.
